Sun Damage Doesn’t Have to Be Permanent
How Laser Photofacial Treatments Can Restore a More Even-Looking Complexion
Living in South Florida comes with many beautiful things. Year-round sunshine is one of them.
Unfortunately, our skin remembers that sunshine long after the day at the beach, afternoon on the golf course or drive with the windows down is over.
Over time, cumulative ultraviolet exposure can become visible as freckles, sun spots, uneven pigmentation and areas of discoloration that make the complexion appear less uniform than it once did.
While we cannot erase the history of sun exposure itself, we can often improve some of the visible pigmentation it leaves behind.
At La Vie Spa Gardens, one of the ways we approach appropriate unwanted brown pigmentation is with Laser Photofacial treatment using the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus®.
This is not an IPL treatment. It is a targeted laser treatment—and understanding that distinction is an important part of understanding what we do.
“Your skin remembers the sun—even when the tan is long gone.”
Why Do Sun Spots Appear Years Later?
Sun damage is cumulative. Everyday UV exposure contributes to changes within the skin over time.
Melanin is the pigment responsible for much of the color in our skin. UV exposure stimulates melanin production as part of the skin’s natural response to sunlight.
With repeated exposure, pigment can become unevenly distributed, resulting in brown spots and areas of discoloration commonly associated with sun damage.
In a climate like Palm Beach Gardens, prevention becomes particularly important. Once visible pigmentation has developed, professional treatments may have a role when skincare products alone are not enough.
What Is a Laser Photofacial?
The term “photofacial” is often associated with IPL, or Intense Pulsed Light.
That is not the technology we use for this treatment at La Vie Spa Gardens.
Our Laser Photofacial uses the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus® laser platform to selectively target appropriate unwanted pigmentation.
For an appropriate brown spot, laser energy is attracted to pigment within the targeted area. The absorbed energy creates a controlled response so the appearance of the spot can gradually diminish as the skin goes through its natural renewal process.
The objective is not to change your natural skin tone. The objective is to reduce the appearance of appropriate unwanted pigment so the complexion can appear clearer and more even.

What Can a Laser Photofacial Help Improve?
For an appropriate candidate, treatment may be considered for visible pigmentation such as:
Sun spots
Age spots
Certain freckles
Areas of uneven brown pigmentation
Other appropriate benign pigmented lesions, following assessment
The important word here is appropriate. Not every brown mark on the skin is simply sun damage, and not every pigmented lesion should be treated cosmetically.
Before We Treat a Brown Spot, We Need to Respect What We Don’t Know
A laser should never be used simply because something looks brown.
Some harmless age spots can resemble other types of skin lesions. La Vie Spa Gardens does not diagnose skin cancer.
If a spot appears suspicious, has changed, or raises concern during our assessment, we may recommend that you have it evaluated and cleared by an appropriate medical professional or board-certified dermatologist before cosmetic laser treatment.
That is not an inconvenience. It is responsible treatment.
“A laser should never be used simply because something looks brown.”
What Happens to the Brown Spots After Treatment?
A treated spot does not necessarily disappear the moment the laser touches it.
The targeted pigmentation may temporarily appear darker or more pronounced following treatment. Depending on the individual response and area treated, the pigment can then gradually become less noticeable as the skin progresses through its natural renewal process.
Sometimes the pigment becomes temporarily more visible before it becomes less visible.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
As with most aesthetic treatments, there is no universal number.
The number of treatments recommended can depend on the amount and depth of visible pigmentation, treatment area, skin type, individual response and continued sun exposure.
Our goal is to evaluate the skin, observe how it responds and make thoughtful recommendations from there.
Why Sun Exposure Matters Before and After Treatment
If there is one thing we cannot separate from pigmentation correction, it is sun protection.
Recent tanning or significant UV exposure can affect treatment eligibility and the way the skin responds to laser energy. For that reason, we may postpone treatment when the skin has been recently exposed or tanned.
After treatment, sun protection becomes equally important. Correcting visible sun damage while continuing unprotected UV exposure works against the result we are trying to achieve.
In South Florida, sun protection isn’t merely a summertime conversation. It is a year-round skincare habit.
“Correcting sun damage is only half of the conversation. Protecting the skin afterward is what helps preserve the result.”
Is Laser Photofacial Right for Every Skin Tone?
Not necessarily—and this is an area where careful assessment matters.
Laser treatments involving pigment require consideration of both the pigment we want to target and the natural melanin present within the surrounding skin.
We would rather tell someone that a treatment is not appropriate for their skin than perform a procedure simply because they requested it.
Good aesthetic care includes knowing when not to treat.
Sun Damage Is More Than a Cosmetic Conversation
Brown spots may be what bring someone through our door, but years of UV exposure have implications beyond appearance.
Cosmetic pigmentation treatment should exist alongside—not replace—appropriate medical skin examinations.
If you notice a spot that is new, changing, irregular, itching, bleeding or otherwise concerning, it should be evaluated by an appropriate medical professional rather than simply treated cosmetically.
Beautiful skin begins with healthy skin.
A More Even Complexion—Without Erasing What Makes You, You
Our approach to pigmentation isn’t about creating perfectly uniform, characterless skin.
Freckles can be beautiful. Natural variation is normal. And healthy skin does not need to look filtered.
What many clients are seeking is simply to soften accumulated patches of unwanted pigmentation that make their complexion appear more sun-damaged or uneven than they would like.
Correction should refine the skin—not erase its identity.
Laser Photofacial for Brown Spots in Palm Beach Gardens
At La Vie Spa Gardens in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, our Laser Photofacial treatment uses the Candela GentleMax Pro Plus® to address appropriate unwanted brown pigmentation and visible signs of sun exposure.
Every treatment begins with an assessment of the skin, pigmentation and individual treatment considerations.
Because when it comes to laser treatment, precision begins before the laser ever touches the skin.
Individual results vary. Laser treatment is not appropriate for every skin type or pigmented lesion. La Vie Spa Gardens provides cosmetic aesthetic treatments and does not diagnose skin cancer or other dermatologic disease. Suspicious, changing or otherwise concerning lesions should be evaluated by an appropriate medical professional before cosmetic treatment.
